Character Background: The Winchesters were once a normal family, but all of that changed when Sam was 6 months old. One night, a demon slipped into Sam’s nursery, feeding the baby a few drops of his blood. Sam’s mother heard a strange noise and went to investigate, catching the demon in the act. His father John checked into the nursery as well, only to find his wife pinned to the ceiling, bleeding from her abdomen. Moments later she burst into flames, and John barely managed to get Sam and Dean out before the entire nursery was engulfed.

From that day forward, John set out to hunt down the thing that had killed his wife, sometimes bringing Dean and Sam along. For a while, Sam was blissfully unaware of his father’s activities, usually left behind to be guarded by Dean. It wasn’t long before hunting became a family affair, however. Sam and Dean learned numerous skills to help them get by, like how to kill certain creatures, how to fight in various ways with various weapons, how to hustle money, how to pick locks, so on. They had to move around a great deal, and Sam hated that he could never stay in a place long enough to establish anything permanent.

Hunting was not what Sam considered a good life, and when he got older, he and his dad started to argue a lot, often leaving brother Dean to try and mediate between them. Sam left his father and brother to go to college, putting his impressive intellect to work to earn a degree. Things seemed to be looking up for him with a beautiful girlfriend at his side and law school in his future. More than anything, Sam just wanted to be normal, to wrap himself in the mundane and pretend that all of that hunting stuff was just a bad dream.

Then Dean showed up and ruined everything. Dean showed up one night, telling Sam that their dad had disappeared and he hadn’t heard from him in a while. After some arguing (since they hadn’t seen or spoken to one another in some time), Dean convinces Sam to come with him to follow up on a lead. It turns out to be nothing but more clues and no Dad, and Sam insists on going back to Stanford. The night he returns, his girlfriend dies in the exact same manner his mother did. This pushed him to give up thoughts of normalcy and join up with his brother to hunt the things that go bump in the night. Through the course of their travels in searching for their dad, Sam and Dean face off against some nasty monsters, trying to save as many people as they can along the way.

A funny thing happens while they’re out fighting evil. Sam starts having visions, premonitions of people dying. They started before his girlfriend’s death, but steadily intensified over time. He used them to try and prevent certain people dying, but he never really had any control over them.

The boys finally catch up to their dad, who is after a powerful gun made by Samuel Colt himself that is said to be able to kill anything. When they get their hands on it, things get intense. The yellow eyed demon who killed their mother (a beast named Azazel), knows they have the weapon and knows they’re after him. They have a close call scrape with him when the demon possesses John, escaping before they can kill him. On the way to the hospital, the car gets tboned by a semi (the driver of which was possessed). The three end up in the hospital, Sam the least injured of them while Dean is in a coma and not doing well. Sam is elated when Dean wakes up, only to be horrified later when their father dies (the result of trading his soul to spare Dean’s life).

With a renewed thirst for vengeance, the boys set out to find the demon and kill him, hoping to stop whatever he has planned in the process. The stakes are higher, and they run into more problems than before, like a godlike trickster and a demon who had tried to kill them in the past possessing Sam and using his body to kill other hunters. Not to mention multiple run ins with the law (mostly Dean’s fault because Sam can do no wrong) or being attacked by a hunter who is convinced that Sam is evil. Through it all, the brothers start to get the feeling that there’s something bigger going on, but they can’t quite figure out what.

Through all their travels, they meet more people like Sam, more people with psychic abilities and telekinetic powers who had run ins with the demon as babies. To Sam’s horror, several of the other ‘special children’ have turned into monsters of a sort, using their powers to manipulate or harm the people around them. Sam fears becoming like them, losing himself to the power he was ‘gifted’ and losing his humanity in the process.

The happenings with these people seem to be leading up to something, culminating in Sam and several other special children getting abducted by Azazel for a battle royal of sorts in the middle of nowhere. The demon tells Sam that he wants them to kill each other until only one remains, and that one will lead an army of demons into a coming war. He also notes that he’s rooting for Sam to win. The prize is the privilege to lead an army released straight from Hell. Sam refuses, and does his best to avoid fighting or killing the others. For his pacifism, he is killed by another contender who claims the ‘prize’ of power and a place in Azazel’s plans.

Sam wakes up a couple of days later, hurting but alive, unaware he had died at all. Dean and Bobby get him up to speed on everything, telling him that the other psychic, Jake, took the Colt and is headed to a focal point inside an enormous ward that demons can’t enter. They race to stop whatever Jake is doing, but fail to prevent him opening a gate to Hell. He releases a cloud of demons to wreck havoc on the world, nasty evil things unlike the common demons they’d seen before. Sam kills Jake in a vicious act of revenge, unfazed by the overkill. With the help of their dad (who escaped hell through the gate), Dean kills Azazel, ending their family’s quest for vengeance.

Sam learns that Dean has made a deal for his return, and now only has a year left to live. This spurs a frantic search for a way to break the deal, at least on Sam’s part. Dean on the other hand tries to stymie his efforts, since if they try to break the deal Sam’s life is forfeit. As time starts getting down to the wire, they go to investigate a “Mystery Spot”, where supposed strange happenings are afoot. Sam enters into a time loop, waking up Tuesday morning around a hundred times, and each time seeing his brother get killed. The whole thing is a Trickster’s doing, but Sam doesn’t know that. To him, it’s just Tuesday. Again.

Abilities/Special Powers: Sam used to have promotions, and later in the series he has more demonic powers. But right now, he has nothing. He’s as seemingly normal as can be. That aside though, he is very intelligent (he DID come from a very prestigious university with a promising future after all). He’s good at researching things, and very logically minded. He’s also super sweet and sensitive.

Asia again. Damnit. It was STILL Tuesday.

“Rise and shine, Sammy!”

It was happening again. Getting out of bed quickly, Sam hurried over to the door, looking outside through the peep hole. He heard Dean make some wise crack about him seeming jumpy. If only Dean knew there had been an axe murder out there once. That had been like something out of a really bad b-horror movie. Looking back to his brother, Sam licked his lips quickly, swallowing hard before he tried to explain this for the umpteenth time.

“Dean listen a second,” he said, stopping the other midsentence. He didn’t even know what he’d been saying. Looking at Dean, he could remember every single way the other man had died. The car, the food, the electrocution. It seemed like nothing at all was safe. Setting his jaw a moment, he finally spoke. “We’re not going anywhere. I can’t explain why, but we’re stuck in some kind of time loop. And yes, it’s just like Groundhog Day.” Dean said that every time. “We get up, we go around here, and you die. I don’t know why, I don’t know how, but we have to figure this out and stop it.”

He paced a little, hearing Dean jabber but tuning it out. What had he figured out so far? Nothing. A lot of nothing. LESS than nothing. He really hated not knowing what he was up against. It was the most frustrating thing ever to him. First Dean and the hell hound thing, now this.

“What’s that crackin noise?” he heard Dean say. Sam had just enough time to look around before the ceiling over Deans head slit open and crumbled, falling on him as a bed fell through the hole with a rather obese couple on it.

“DEAN!”

“Rise and shine, Sammy!”

Not again. This time Dean stumbled over a poorly constructed chair and ended up impaled on a leg that broke away.

Heat of the moment

A runaway wheelchair with the world’s fattest old person.

Heat of the moment

Somehow he inhaled a toothpick he’d been chewing on which lodged the back of his throat.

Heat of the moment

First-Person Sample:
I don’t know what’s worse, waking up in the same place over and over or waking up wherever here is. My bag is gone, my stuff is gone, even my computer is gone. Worse is that I have no idea where Dean is. So maybe I’m out of this loop just to be in something else. Great.

Priorities right now are to find out where I am and find Dean, not necessarily in that order. I swear if something happened to him…No time for that. Maybe if I just look around and listen for “Wayward Son” I’ll find him.
